                      How to Use Mulethi

Mulethi, more commonly known as licorice, is a popular herbal supplement used to treat a variety of medical conditions. Like many herbal supplements, the health benefits it claims are unverified by the professional medical community, but most healthy individuals can safely take mulethi in small to moderate doses to treat minor ailments.

Part 1 of 3: Understanding the Benefits of Mulethi

  1. Use Mulethi Step 1.jpg

1.Use mulethi to fight against inflammation.
Mulethi contains glycyrrhizin and numerous flavonoids, all of which have anti-inflammatory properties.
    • The anti-inflammatory nature of mulethi makes it helpful against skin irritants, including those responsible for rashes. Apply mulethi topically to treat skin conditions.
    • When consumed, the anti-inflammatory nature of mulethi can treat chronic inflammation associated with arthritis and autoimmune disease.
    • Since mulethi also contains antioxidants, it is commonly used to treat inflammation of the mouth, throat, stomach, and intestines. It can even be used to heal ulcers already formed in these areas of the digestive system.

2.Fight against colds and sore throats.
Mulethi acts as a demulcent, so it actually forms a thin film of mucus over your throat when you chew on the root or swallow a product made with the herb.
    • For this reason, it's especially good at treating coughs and sore throats.
    • This property of mulethi is another reason why the root is so helpful in healing ulcers. The thin mucus produced after consuming the root can actually coat the ulcers, stopping them from causing and undergoing further irritation.
  3. Use Mulethi Step 3.jpg
3.Improve the functioning of your adrenal glands.
This herb is linked to improved adrenal functioning, and these glands control your stress hormones, including cortisol.
    • Low levels of cortisol can cause fatigue, anxiety, and depression, so the improved cortisol production caused by mulethi can help treat these issues.
    • You can also get a heavy dose of antioxidants known as flavonoids by taking mulethi. These antioxidants, combined with the improved adrenal function already noted, can help shield your brain cells and improve your memory.

4.Take mulethi to treat menstrual pains.
Since mulethi has anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, and moderate estrogenic properties, it can be taken orally to help treat symptoms commonly associated with menstruation.
    • Symptoms treated by mulethi include cramps, nausea, bloating, breast tenderness, and mood swings.
    • To maximize the benefits of mulethi tea during menstruation, take it once a day starting three days before menstruation.
    •
  5. Use Mulethi Step 5.jpg
6.Note the benefits associated with mulethi antioxidants. Antioxidants can improve many aspects of your health, and mulethi is rich in these amazing nutrients.
    • The antioxidants found in mulethi can prevent free radicals and toxic materials from moving around in your liver, thereby protecting the liver against diseases and conditions like jaundice.
    • You can also increase blood capillary health and prevent the build up of arterial plaque due to these antioxidants, too.

Part 2 of 3: Dosage for Oral Use

  1. Use Mulethi Step 6.jpg
1.Know which conditions mulethi might help when taken orally. Consuming mulethi can treat a range of internal conditions. Digestive conditions are the ones most commonly treated with oral applications of mulethi, but other internal conditions dealing with your respiratory system, circulatory system, and mood can also benefit.
  2. Use Mulethi Step 7.jpg
2.Combine mulethi powder and lukewarm water.
Mix 1 tsp (5 ml) of mulethi powder in 8 oz (250 ml) of lukewarm water. Stir well until the powder is completely dissolved.
    • Gargle this solution four to five times a day to help soothe and heal mouth sores. When used for mouth sores, this solution should not be swallowed.
    • Similarly, gargling a solution made with 1/4 cup (60 ml) warm water and 1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) mulethi extract can help reduce or eliminate bad breath.
    •
  3. Use Mulethi Step 8.jpg
    3.Brew mulethi tea.
Combine 1 Tbsp (15 ml) of crushed mulethi root with 2 cups (500 ml) of water in a small saucepan. Simmer the mixture on your stove over low heat for 10 minutes.
    • Filter the tea before use.
    • Drink the tea while still warm to help treat a cold, cough, or upper respiratory infection.
    • The tea is also believed to help heal acid reflux and peptic ulcers when consumed once a day for one month. If you struggle with severe menstrual cramps, mulethi tea can help treat those, as well.
    • Some believe that consuming licorice root tea once a week can also help treat nervousness, depression, and anxiety.
    • You can also gargle this tea to treat mouth sores or inflammation in the mouth.
  4. Use Mulethi Step 9.jpg
4.Combine mulethi tea with other herbal teas.
Mulethi is believed to help increase the effectiveness of many other herbs when consumed simultaneously. You can blend mulethi with certain other herbal teas, and the conditions those teas may treat can become even more beneficial.
    • Combine a 1-inch (2.5-cm) piece of mulethi root with a 1-inch (2.5-cm) piece of ginger and 2 cups (500 ml) of water. Heat this mixture on the stove over low heat for 10 minutes, strain, and drink while still warm. This particular blend can be used to treat asthma and bronchial irritation.
    • Combine equal parts mulethi, chamomile, and peppermint. Use this mixture in a one-to-five ratio of herbs-to-water and steep over low heat for 10 minutes. Strain and drink as a way of treating indigestion and heartburn.
  5. Use Mulethi Step 10.jpg
5.Chew on a piece of mulethi directly.
Cut off a piece of raw licorice and chew on it for 5 to 15 minutes.
    • This remedy can help soothe a sore throat and reduce hoarseness of voice.
    • Chewing on liquorice root can also help eliminate bad breath.
    •
  6. Use Mulethi Step 11.jpg
    6.Take a supplement containing mulethi.
Look for an herbal supplement that contains licorice. You will usually need to take one tablet three times daily, and each dosage should be taken 30 minutes before a meal.
    • If the label instructions vary from this dosage, follow the label instructions instead.
    • Such supplements usually contain other herbs, as well.
    • Taking mulethi supplements can help reduce gastric ulcers and calm stomach upset.
